Phil, who is now bionic, wins the much awaited first event that turned out to be at Druids Heath. With 26 points he becomes the first winner of the year, and four clear of second place. I am sure he will not complain about his new handicap of 14 for winning. Three people come second with 22 points share the points for the Caratella Cup. On the day though on countbacks Alan and Sean fight their way through to second and third respectively.
Not much to report on except the course was in amazing condition for the time of the year, which is why we pay that extra for it. Greens were quick and fairways nicely cut. They certainly did look after us. A challenging course too. Due to this I am looking at booking the course for our final event in September next year. Just waiting for them to come out with their 2025 diaries so I can book our day.
It's always great to see guests being invited and playing with us and would actively encourage all members to invite guests any time. This is the main way to recruit members for our society, seeing it for themselves, realising you all are not knobs. Please encourage and talk to any potential members.
One thing I would like to raise again and is a continuing theme as always. SLOW PLAY. The round on Sunday took over 5 hours. This should not be the case, especially when we had nothing in front of us.
Please pick up your ball if you can’t score. I know you are trying to get your monies worth. Unless you are playing Matchplay competition (which I may consider scrapping if long rounds continue) you should not be having 9+ on the cards. They should read N/A. I may even start calling groups out and raising it with the group or individuals if that is the case. It’s no fun for those that are behind you. I see members taking more that 3 minutes to look for a lost ball, leaving trolleys/buggies in the wrong places and then having to walk back to the trolley/buggy to fetch it. We should be playing ready golf.
Do I need to introduce fines for players or groups? Rant over. Hopefully this message gets through and that I don’t have to call anyone out after this.
We move onto the next event which is Oundle on Sunday 20th May 2024. Please get your monies into me if you intend to go. See you there.
